Cinemagraphs are a combination of two visual elements, photography and video. By combining the two, we are able to produce a still image accompanied by a form of movement. This movement can be anything from hair blowing in the wind on a model to ocean waves crashing on the shore. Still, images come to life as our eyes are drawn to the visual aesthetic appeal of the image. A little bit of movement can draw more attention to the finer detail of the image and overall heighten the viewers' experience, making them feel like they are standing there themselves.
